| Sira Test & Certification
is part of The Sira Group of Companies. Sira offers
a support service to manufacturers and users of instrumentation
for engineering and manufacturing together with those
process and technology based industries.
Sira work with four criteria :- Compliance,
Certification, Conformity and Competence.These areas
are designed to test and provide certification for
equipment and personnel working in hazardous and potentially
explosive atmospheres. This includes safety related
systems, training courses, momitoring of instrumentation,
test labs and evaluation of products and product conformity.
Adrian Waine has undertaken a number of interesting
assignments with Sira.
Sira had been presented with the task
of testing two designs of telephone kiosk for use
on the continent. A testing system to replicate persistent
rain was devised to ensure that water would not penetrate
this street furniture and become dangerous with power
sources. Adrian Waine was commissioned to photograph
this test.
As a large volume of water was to
be used, the test needed to take place outdoors in
an area with free drainage. The car park was an ideal
location. However, in order to highlight the water
spray a dark background was required. A shooting time
of late evening was decided upon.
With four people lifting the kiosks
into place on a pallet, an internal lighting system
was installed and flash lighting placed at a safe
distance from the spray. Due to the weight of water
inside the hose, an external support system was erected
to hold the hose above the operator’s head.
With some super glue, SIRA labels were attached to
a helmet and overalls to maintain the company’s
identity. Finally, shots were taken around 10pm in
time for dusk. The dusk thereby created a blue backdrop,
disguising trees and distant roof tops.
To date, Sira have used the photographs
to illustrate the complexity of safety testing and
on this occasion, the manufacturer was able to improve
sealing arangements on the kiosks.
Secondly, Sira announced through a
press release, the appointment of Technical Account
Managers to work directly with major clients. To highlight
this association, a particularly vibrant photograph
was created within Sira’s gas testing facility.
Our photographer lit the equipment with orange and
pink light to remove the pallid colour of the equipment.
A time exposure was also introduced to allow the LED
s to record on film. The overall atmosphere of the
photograph is one of science fiction- maybe a view
inside Dr. Who’s Tardis?
The Hazardous Area Newsletter
‘Flashpoint’ featured the photograph to
announce the dedication of service to clients.
Testimonial from Bob Cooper :
"Shots
like this last forever and do not have a limited life.
We can continue to use them in any press article or
brochure which we may need. The shots have a great
visual impact making them appealing to us to accompany
press articles and such like."
